Abkowicz

Obituary

Joseph Abkowicz , 91 years of age of West Hartford, formerly of Poland and Russia, died Monday, November 10, 2014. He was the beloved husband for more than 60 years of Liza Abkowicz and the father of Nelly Abkowicz of West Hartford. He was the son of the late Abraham and Hannah Abkowitz. He was predeceased by three siblings in Poland, sisters Peril and Malka and brother Moner and his brother Leon Abkowicz of West Hartford. He is survived by his nephew Leslie and wife Marilyn Abkowicz and their children, his godson Scott Abkowicz and Mandy Wainscoat, his niece Ann Wolf and husband Mickey and her children, Amy Goldman and Judy Rothberg. Joseph was a Holocaust survivor and was a retired employee of Shepard Steel and a long time member of United Synagogues of Greater Hartford.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the United Synagogues of Greater Hartford Memorial Park in Wethersfield with Rabbi Edward Cohen officiating. The family will be receiving visitors immediately following the Interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s name may be made to the Hebrew Home or the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
