JOYCE BISBERG, 93, of Westbrook, formerly of West Hartford, died after a short illness on Oct. 9, 2023. She was the widow of Arnold Bisberg and Selwyn Berson and a former member of Temple Beth Israel.
She leaves a daughter, Betsy Palmer and her husband, Donald Palmer, of Olney, MD; two sons, Loren Bisberg of Farmington, CT and Paul Bisberg and his partner, Lisa Doherty, of East Haddam, CT; and two grandchildren, Steven Palmer and his wife, Katherine Swanson, and Abby Palmer, both of Washington, D.C. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Steven Bisberg.
Joyce spent her career in the travel business, including owning her own successful corporate event planning company for many years. She enjoyed international travel, gardening, UCONN women’s basketball, the family’s long history with their pet dogs, and MSNBC. But her passions were her beloved family and the family beach house in Westbrook, which her father built when she was young and which will remain the treasured family homestead beyond the current fourth generation. The Stannard Beach community meant a tremendous amount to her and it was where she was always happiest, and where she will be missed.
In her later years, Joyce spent winters in Olney, MD., to be closer to her grandchildren, whom she adored.
The funeral will be graveside at the Beth Israel Cemetery (175 Ward St., Hartford) on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 2:30 pm. The family will receive friends and family at Joyce’s Westbrook home (43 Maple Lane, Westbrook) following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Joyce’s name to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
