June Rhoda Block Mishkin was born April 19th 1930 in Springfield Massachusetts. June was the daughter of Joseph and Evelyn Block. She grew up in a loving family and always dreamed of the day when she would become both a teacher and a mother. June accomplished both of her dreams. On October 18th 1953 she married Jack Mishkin. This past October the two celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In 1957 her first child Donna was born and fourteen months later her son Joel followed. Her second dream was to become a teacher and after attending Leslie College June became a certified pre-school teacher. And this is where the story begins. For fifty plus years June taught at the Bess and Paul Sigel Hebrew Academy. She also spent many summer months being a counselor at Camp-a-Reenah the camp at the Jewish Community Center. When after 50 years June decided to retire from the Hebrew Academy she began volunteering at the school, reading, teaching and most importantly loving all the children. June leaves behind her husband Jack and her two children, Donna and her husband Barry of West Hartford and Joel and his wife Beverly of Sarasota Florida. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Eliana and Micah, Evan and Alec. In accomplishing her dreams June left behind a true legacy. She taught by example and was adored by all who knew her. June touched countless people in her kind and unassuming way. She will be missed but she will not be forgotten. Shiva will be observed at the home of Donna and Barry Gordon – 26 Stoneham Drive, West Hartford. Shiva hours are 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Bess and Paul Sigel Hebrew Academy.
