Laurence Joseph Goldstein, born May 30th, 1945, in New Haven, died at his cherished home in Farmington, CT on October 8th, 2023. Larry leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Rae Ellen and his two children Sara (husband Jeffrey Lahrmann), Jonathan Goldstein, M.D. (spouse, Bond Vo), and beloved grandson, Jordan. Larry also leaves behind his brother, Philip David Goldstein (wife Jan Volin). He is predeceased by his parents Dora and Frank Goldstein.
Larry graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven before attending Syracuse University. He was passionate about music and played guitar in several rock bands during his school years, even briefly performing alongside Lou Reed at college. After his undergraduate studies he graduated from UCONN’s dental and medical schools where he purchased his first (of many) Porsche 911s.
While studying for his medical board exams he happened upon his eventual wife, Rae Ellen, while waiting in line at the Stop & Shop on Farmington Ave., West Hartford and they married shortly thereafter. He then completed his residency in psychiatry at Hartford Hospital where he was chief resident.
Over the next nearly 40 years, Larry built a highly respected psychiatry practice caring for hundreds of patients where he could recite each of their phone numbers by memory far after they had graduated from his services. Larry was devoted to his patients and found great meaning in seeing them flourish. The care and concern he brought to his patients will be missed.
A graveside burial is scheduled for 10am Wednesday, October 11th at the Beth Hillel Synagogue Cemetery 80 Wolcott Road, East Granby, CT 06070 with shiva to follow at his home in Farmington on Wednesday and Thursday. Memorial donations may be directed to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
