Lillian Eileen Pisetsky Beatman, “Libby” to family and friends, died September 16, 2013. Brainy and accomplished, she graduated with honors from Weaver High distinguishing herself with statewide Latin, French, and American History awards. While riding a bus home from work one day, she met a handsome WWII Veteran, Leslie Beatman. He loved and admired her during their sixty-year marriage before he died on January 10, 2013. When most women in the 1950s were relegated to the role of homemaker, Libby had other aspirations. She was an honors graduate of St. Joseph’s College where she was a favorite of the nuns whom she loved and with whom she stayed in lifelong contact. One of only two women when she entered UCONN Law School, she graduated second in her class and served as Law Review Editor. Leslie, like Libby, was also ahead of his time supporting and encouraging her while he put her through college and law school. He loved to say that she was “one of a kind.” Libby was known for her keen intellect, porcelain skin, being chronically late, and for her love of family, WNPR, Hollywood gossip, newspapers, and Snickers bars. She smiled brightest and twinkled with pride when Leslie playfully addressed her, as he frequently did, with his nickname for her: “Mother Goose,” and “Goose” for short. She leaves her four ducklings, Joelle Newton; Matthew Beatman and his wife Debra; Anthony Beatman; Bobbitt Walker and her husband Britt; grandchildren, Calli, Jared, Saige, Spencer, Nate, Ben, Carrie, and Samantha; and siblings, Phyllis Schloss, Calvin Price, and Felda Yron. She was predeceased by her parents, Mildred (Rosinksy) and Benjamin Pisetsky and brother, Marvin Pisetsky.
Burial will be private. Shiva will be held on September 18, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 12 Haman Ct., Kensington. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT 06117, where she was a member. Online condolences to: www.weinsteinmortuary.com.
