Lola Herz, 93, of West Hartford, CT, died September 2, 2016. Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Widow of the late Leon Herz of beloved memory. Lola leaves three children, Roman Herz and his wife Donna, Zev Herz, and Steven Herz and his wife Ronalee; five grandchildren Randy Herz and his wife Jennifer, Matthew Herz and his wife Laura, Jennifer Helmrich and her husband Stein, April Herz, and Tyler Herz; and six great grandchildren Jacob, Alexander, Zachary, Nicole, Isabella, and Jozey. She is also survived by her brother Herman Sheppard and his family. Lola was born in 1922 in Poland, daughter of Rubin and Rachel Prepiorka, and was a Holocaust survivor. She met and married her husband Leon in Germany after they were both released from concentration camps. They moved to Israel in 1948 and then to the United States in 1957. Lola was an extraordinary woman and the matriarch of her family. She found the greatest joy in being with her family and friends. She was famous for her sponge cake, potato kugel and Sunday lunches with her family. She always had a smile on her face, a kind word, and a warm hug for those she knew and loved. Everyone who knew her adored her. She will be missed. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of The Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, with Rabbi James Rosen officiating this Sunday at 1:30 pm. The family will be receiving guest immediately following at 25 Cassandra Blvd, West Hartford, CT 06107 in the Community Room. Memorial period will be observed at the home of Roman and Donna Herz at 60 Cassandra Blvd, apt. 311, West Hartford beginning at 2 pm Monday, services to be held at 7:30 pm.
