WEINER, Louis G. Weiner, 92 years of age, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Betty (Greenberg) Weiner for 66 years, died Thursday, October 29, 2009. He was born in Hartford and lived his life in the Hartford area. He was the son of the late Abraham and Anna (Singer) Weiner. He served in the US Army during World War II at Camp Stewart, GA. As a young man he had a great love of music and studied saxophone and clarinet with the well-known music teacher, Merrill Johnson in New York. While in the military, he played lead clarinet in the US Army Band at Camp Stewart. He also played in the Governor?s Foot Guard Band for many years, giving concerts throughout the area. He was an active Mason for many years, as well as a member of the West Hartford Regents. His professional career was as an owner of the former Cripps Men?s Shops in Hartford and Manchester, and post retirement he worked with Standard Paper Co. He was a member of the Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Dr. Steven Weiner and his wife Claire of Santa Fe, NM, and Barry W. Weiner and his wife Shahla of New York, NY; three grandchildren, Rebecca Weiner and her husband Drake Bennett, Roya Weiner, and Jonathan Weiner; and two sisters, Rita Winer of West Hartford, and Sylvia Krainson of Longmeadow, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small and Cantor Sanford Cohn officiating. Interment will follow in the Piaterer Verein Society Cemetery, Jordon Lane Ext., Wethersfield.
