Marvin

Levine, M.D.

Obituary

Marvin Levine, M.D., 82 years of age, of Bloomfield, died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Hartford Hospital with his loving wife of 60 years and his entire family at his bedside.  Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Louis and Bertha (Wexler) Levine and the brother of the late, Elaine Fish.

Marvin received his undergraduate degree from New York University and medical degree from the Ghent Medical School in Ghent, Belgium.  After graduating from medical school, Marvin and his growing family moved back to Brooklyn, New York to do his residency and then Hartford, CT to complete his residency as chief resident of pediatrics at Hartford Hospital.

Marvin then served honorably in the Navy in Pensicola, Florida where he was ultimately discharged as a Captain.  Marvin and his wife, Terri so enjoyed their residency years in Hartford that they choose to move back to the area to raise a family and begin a private practice career as a pediatrician that spanned five decades and touched many lives.  One of the many qualities that made Marvin special was that your family was his.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Theresa (Buchenholz) Levine; a son, Steven L. Levine and his wife Christine of South Windsor, their children, Carrie, Lindsey and Joseph, a son, Attorney Robert B. Levine and his wife Julie of West Hartford, their children Margaux and Nicole, a daughter, Lisa C. Levine of Somerville, MA, and a son, Attorney Mitchell J. Levine of Avon.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon.  Following the interment through Thursday evening, the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of his son, Robert B. Levine, 105 Mohawk Dr., West Hartford.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2080 Silas Deane Hwy, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.  For further information, directions, or to sign the guest book for Marvin, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.cfm.

My condolences to the family.

Dr. Levine was the absolute best! He was the pediatrician for my 3 daughters from 1988 when my first was born to his retirement in 2001. At that time we stayed with Dr. Post up until today (2022) with my grandchildren now.

We were family and that's why we all loved him and stayed for so many years. He knew us all by name and was a genuine guy along with Dr. Werner. Both were a delight.

It's been a long time but we still think about him especially when riding by the old office area and when seeing Dr. Post who he really helped get started with flexibility while she was trying to work part-time and raise her family in the early years of her career.

Dr. Levine was the best!

I am so saddened to have just found out about The loss of Dr. Levine. He was my pediatrician when I was young and I stayed with him throughout my college years. Both my daughters who are now in their 20s also went to him. I live in Cromwell and traveled to Bloomfield anytime my child needed to see the doctor. Sometimes, I think my children would fake an illness just because they loved him so much and wanted to go see him. I never minded the drive because I knew that my children were getting the best care in the world. His bedside manner was spectacular. He will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Dear Terri, Steven, Robert, Lisa, Mitch and the rest of the Levine family,
How sad to hear of our dear cousin Marvin's passing. Truly a great man and a compassionate doctor! We remember all the good times growing up together with the whole "Wexler " clan. Such fun! We wish we could have been with you to celebrate Marvin's life during the past few weeks, but we are in Florida. Love and peace to you all. I remember Dr. Levine as one of my children's pediatricians. Although Dr. Werner was our main doctor, we saw Dr. Levine occasionally also. He was a very nice man and good with the kids. We enjoyed the rooms painted with the Sesame Street and Star Wars themes. We were very glad that another patient had recommended their practice. We are sorry for your loss and hope that your many wonderful memories of Dr. Levine will help soothe your grief.

To Mrs. Levine and family,
We are shocked by the passing of our favorite Dr. Levine. Like others, we loved him dearly and his warmth and gentle ways will never be forgotten. When my daughter was born in 1971, he took care of ME as well as her. When I brought her to the office for one thing or another, I was worried and while she cried, he told me.." She will be fine, it is you I am worried about"!!!!!
Please know how sad we are knowing we will not be seeing him on occasion when we dine at the Hideaway in Old Lyme. He was a gem we will never ever forget. May he rest in peace.

On behalf of my family Judy and Adrian I would like to offer my condolences to all the Levines on the passing of Dr. Marvin Levine. Whenever I saw him in the office he shared with my father, he was a kind presence who always had the humorous word or kind gesture, depending on the circumstance. I hope the memory of all those lives he touched will be of some comfort to you.

Terri - So Sad and So Sudden! My condolences to you and the family.Marv was the affirmative member of our partnership - so much so that when the staff characterized us they labelled Marv the clown not in a derogatory way but in an appreciative way. As the obituary remarked he did relate so well to the entire family of the patient - including the grandmothers! That's something innate rather than learned. Love and sympathy - Bennett

To The Levine Family:
I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Levine's passing. He was a wonderful pediatrician and I feel fortunate that my daughters were lucky enough to be under his care. As a parent I appreciated him sharing his extensive experience, while clearly understanding that what may be routine to a doctor with decades of patients was never "routine" to the parent and patient sitting across from him. He was a kind, caring and attentive person and he will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy to Terry, their children Steven, Robert, Lisa and Mitchell and all their families. - Marvin and I were in practice together for 34 years. It is true that a partnership with its daily close contact mostly resembles a marriage. During all those years we never exchanged a word of anger or hostility to one another, and that certainly surpasses most marriages. The reason was that Marvin was a true gentle man in the truest sense of the word. He had a grace and affection for both his patients and their parents. If any of our staff was upset by a patient's demands, Marvin would always respond, "oh she is a lovely person", because for him everyone was a lovely person. Marvin will be remembered by so many as the "loveliest person of all" who has touched ours and countless lives. He always had a joke, but never at the expense of anyone else's feelings. He never tried to diminish other . His humor was meant to make a sick child smile, relieve a parent's anxiety or to make all those around him have a smile on their face. So thank you Marvin for letting us be part of your life. We will miss you gravely. Goodbye my wonderful friend.

A person who lived well, in service to others. Who loved his wife and showed everyone what a beautiful marriage and relationship could be. Who loved his own children and grandchildren, and the ones who counted themselves his extended family. What a wonderful man, his legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, and those of us who will never forget his kindness, his true goodness and character. Dear Teri and Family~
Our sincere condolences to you all on this huge loss.

When my children would call him Dr. Vaseline he would grin that wonderful smile and take joy as he did treating all the children in his care.

Long before peanut allergies were so common, at 18 months of age, my daughter reacted to peanut butter. He calmed a hysterical mother, gave instructions to drive over to the office immediately and met us in the parking lot and injected epinephrine while she was still in her car seat, then sat with us in the office, never leaving our side, until mother and child were safe and out of danger.

As he treated both of my children well into their college years, this is just one of many examples of a truly beloved doctor and a unique and special man.

I have very fond memories of Dr. Levine. He was warm, patient, and funny. He always put me at ease at every well visit or sick visit. My thoughts are with all of you right now. The world has lost a kind soul.

Dear Levine Family, I was so sorry to learn of Dr. Marvin's passing, yes that is what we all called him as kids and our kids called him that as well. He was an amazing doctor and the most caring and kind person one could know. I feel so fortunate that I saw him a couple of weeks back and got to talk about the good ole days in Bloomfield. Yes, he was one of the good guys and will be sorely missed. My sympathies go out to your entire family. Cherish the great memories that will always fill your hearts. Lisa

He was the best doctor for my two girls. They loved him so much they stayed so he could do their exams for college. I always had the greatest respect for him. I know he will be sorely missed and I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to his family
