Melvin Y. Gershman, 87, of Naples, FL and Lenox, MA, formerly of West Hartford, CT, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Harry and Minnie (Zubrow) Gershman. A graduate of Trinity College, he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Coleco Industries, Inc.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Sandra (Kaufman) Gershman; his son, Donald Gershman of West Hartford, CT; his daughter, Karen Klein and her husband Jay of Scarsdale, NY; his sisters, Esther Gendel of Los Angeles, CA, and Naomi Greenberg of Boynton Beach, FL; and six grandchildren, Stephen, Carolyn and Sara Gershman, and Julia, Joshua and Aliza Klein.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 8, 2013 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow at the Piaterer Verein Society Cemetery, Jordan Lane Ext., Wethersfield, CT. Shiva will be observed on Sunday following the interment, and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday and Tuesday nights, at 4 Ranger Lane, West Hartford, CT.
