Michael Dworkin (born Meyer), PD, CCN, 89 years of age, of Bloomfield, CT, and formerly of Manchester, CT (1956 – 2010), crossed over at 8:38pm on April 28, 2017, after listening to opera, with his daughter and wife by his side. He was born in New Haven, CT, to Alice Porriss and Solomon Dworkin, each Russian born. He was the devoted, loving husband of Ellen B. Dworkin for 60 years, committed, proud father of J. (Jill) Erika Dworkin and Martha (Mali) Eve Vishnevsky, playful grandfather of Avital (Tali) Vishnevsky Antler and Ben Vishnevsky, and imminent great-grandfather. As the holder of a Doctorate in Pharmacy (full-scholarship to UCONN School of Pharmacy) and a Connecticut-Certified Clinical Nutritionist, he was the founding proprietor of Liggett Rexall Pharmacy and the Parkade Health Shoppe in Manchester, CT. He was a trail blazer in the advancement of holistic nutrition as a preventive and healing modality. For many years, based on provisions of the Environmental Protection Act of 1971, he successfully led a coalition fight to delay the opening of the J.C. Penney distribution warehouse that was built on over 48 acres. His passions included family, helping people, studying/ reading, opera and other classical music (performed as a tenor in various liturgical singing groups), tennis, skiing, swimming, conversing in Yiddish, laughter, and stand-up comedy. A celebration of his life will be held at 12 o’clock noon on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Congregation Kol Haverim, 1079 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT 06033, with Rabbi Stephen Wylen and Tami Cherdack Sherman, Cantorial Soloist. Interment will follow at Temple Beth Sholom Memorial Park, Autumn Street, Manchester, CT. Following internment, the family will begin Shiva at 314 Chestnut Hill Road, Glastonbury, CT (park on nearby streets) until 8pm.
