Michael

(Lee)

Rome

Obituary

Michael Lee Rome, 70 years of age of Rocky Hill, CT, formerly of West Hartford, CT, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Milton and Esther Rome. He is survived by his son Matthew, his wife, Lisa and their three children, Samuel, Brynne, and Julian of Chicago, IL; and his son, Jonathan and significant other Jessica Poppa and their daughter, Jasmine of Vernon, CT. He is also survived by his brother, Edward Rome and wife Linda of East Hartford along with their daughter, Lindsey Marshall of South Windsor and his nephew, Marc Frankel of Hoboken, NJ. Michael graduated from Conard High School in West Hartford and received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Quinnipiac College in New Haven, where he also played baseball. For many years, he was a quintessential entrepreneur, running a successful commercial roofing supply company. For the love of the game, Michael dedicated over 20 years of his life to West Hartford Youth Sports and became a permanent fixture at the Kingswood Oxford School gymnasium running the basketball league as well as every baseball diamond in town. He provided leadership roles along with coaching, umpiring, and of course his fanship of the game. His charismatic personality, strong embraces and sense of humor will be missed, along with his favorite phrase, “mark my words!” Funeral services and interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the State Veterans Jewish Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln, Middletown, CT with Rabbi Small officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at 42 Lawler Rd, West Hartford, CT immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be made to the West Hartford Youth Baseball League, which is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, tax ID# 22-2570520, PO Box 270186, West Hartford, CT 06127-0186. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Rome family. Peter and I have known Michael for over fifty years. Michael and Peter were involved in sports in West Hartford and I remember when he and his buddies took me and my girlfriend in at the Cape when we couldn't get a room over Memorial weekend. It was one of our best times in our youth! He will be sorely missed. Love to all of you. ??

My deepest condolences to the Rome family. I have so many fond memories of Michael. When I used to babysit for Matthew and Jonathan, Michael was always so nice to me and funny. I used to look up to Michael and Debbie as the perfect couple, with their welcoming home, two gorgeous children and he was so handsome and she was(and is) so beautiful. My family spent many holidays at their home and it was always so enjoyable. Since hearing of his passing, my family and I have been remembering him. My aunt Helayne remembers how dedicated to his sons he was, being so involved in their sports and activities, my brother Michael remembers his great sense of humor, and my sister Amy, remembers that he was the life of the party, but if a sports game that he wanted to see was on television, everyone had to be quiet, ha ha ha. Although Michael had some difficult struggles in life, every time I saw him over the years he would find a way to have a smile on his face. His ability to be light hearted all the time was definitely a quality to be admired. To Matthew and Jonathan, as well as Debbie: have peace in knowing that you brought so much joy to his life. He was blessed to have been able to see that his children formed beautiful families of their own. Rest in peace Michael, as you join so many of our beloved family members who have left us.

To my beloved boys: Your father was very proud of you both. You gave him love and respect until the end. I am very happy that he got to see you both mature into fine young adults and know and love your children. I love you. Mom
