STEIN, Milton Milton Stein of Kirkwood Rd., West Hartford passed away Saturday (July 5, 2008) at Hartford Hospital, born in Hartford in 1916, he was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Stein. He attended local schools and graduated Hillyer College with high honors in accounting. Formerly Chief of the Conference staff, Hartford District, Internal Revenue Service, covering Connecticut and Rhode Island. Enlisted in 43rd division, Connecticut National Guard in February 1941. Promoted to first Sergeant, then commissioned to a second Lieutenant in 1942 and sent to Dutch Harbor, Alaska as assistant Post Engineer. Promoted to First Lieutenant, sent to Fort Roy in Sitka, Alaska as Post Engineer. Separated from Service in January 1946 with rank of Captain. Recalled to active duty in 1952 for Korean War and sent to Augsburg, Germany. Milton was a founding member of Beth El Temple, serving for 10 years on the Board of Trustees. He also belonged to West Hartford Regents, Hadassah as an Associate, PIRRAC, Level Lodge #137 A.F. and A.M. (54 years), Commander Club of the D.A.V.(Life Member), Hartford Jewish War Veterans, Simon Weisenthal Society People for the American Way, Rockledge Country Club, Jewish Historical Society, ADL, 55-0 Club, and the Jewish Community Center. He was a well-known golfer and the winner of many tournaments, shooting his age at 76. He developed his love for the game at age 12 while caddying at Tumblebrook Country Club. He was a member of Ellington Ridge for many years, where he won several senior titles. He leaves his loving wife of 62 years, Selma Lee Roth Stein and his three devoted children, Gerri Schiffman and husband Fred, Holly Stein and Larry Stein and wife Miriam. He derived much pleasure from his seven grandchildren, Joshua and wife Maureen, Jessica and husband David, Jacob, Judd, Corey, Justin and Carolyn and from his three great-grand children, Noah, Benjamin and Jackson. He also leaves his brothers, Louis and wife Rita, and Sidney and wife Elaine; also many nieces, nephews, and caring friends. The family wishes to thank Norman Jones and Dominic Effiong for their devoted care of Milton. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, at 12 Noon, at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow at Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon.
