Myron A.

("Mike")

Bersch

Obituary

Myron A. Bersch (“Mike”), age 85, of Wallingford, CT died after a brief illness on Monday, January 23, 2017 in Delray Beach, Florida with his wife of 51+ years, Elaine Penny (Soll) Bersch, and other family members by his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Sol and Esther (Abelson) Bersch. Myron attended Brooklyn College and subsequently served our country as a cook in the Army Air Corps. Myron then tinkered with several jobs (he ran a small country store and gas station, was a volunteer fireman, and sold furniture) until he married Penny on September 2, 1965 and settled down as the manufacturing supervisor at a family business that made tiffany-style lamps. In every odd job, personal endeavor, and household chore, Myron exemplified a quiet dedication to getting the job done, which he did — every time — with a full heart and a sincere smile. Myron was forced to retire in his 50’s due to a cardiac illness, which gave him more time to pursue his real passions – dabbling in the stock market, watching television, eating out and grocery shopping with coupons. Myron’s doctors used to say that it seemed as if he had “nine lives.” So many times he seemed to be on the brink of death, only to make an amazing recovery. While Myron died of an acute illness, he spent the past 6 years, after suffering 2 strokes, confined to a wheelchair and locked inside a body that could no longer speak and function fluently. He was a fighter every step of the way; he faced most situations with a smile and a never-ending determination to get well. Anyone that knew Myron knows that he enjoyed these last years with his family because of the extraordinary love, support, devotion and advocacy provided by his incredible wife; she never left Myron’s side and watched to be sure he always received the care, dignity and respect that he deserved. In addition to his wife Penny, Myron leaves his children: David Bersch and his wife Alicia of Boynton Beach, FL, Robin (Bersch) Gold and her husband Charles of West Simsbury, CT, and Richard Bersch and his wife Layla of North Salem, NY; and his seven beloved grandchildren: Shaun (and fiancée Marietha), Eric, Cecelia, Leo, Harry, Newton and Eli. Myron also leaves his brothers: David Bersch and his wife Ina of Trumbull, CT and Howard Bersch of Englewood, NJ; Myron was predeceased by his sister Caryl (Bersch) Adler. The family would also like to express sincere thanks to Myron’s long-time doctors for their care and caring over the years: Dr. Bruce Brumberger and Dr. Bernard Clark. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Congregation Adath Israel, 8 Broad St, Middletown, CT with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler officiating. Interment will follow in Congregation Adath Israel Cemetery, Pine Street, Middletown, CT. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the Bersch residence, 628 6th Ridge Road in Wallingford. The family will continue to receive family and friends (shiva) at this residence from Thursday afternoon through Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Myron’s memory to a charity of one’s choice . Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. I wish to convey my sincerest condolences to your entire family. Losing a loved one in death is one is one of the hardest things that anyone will ever have to deal with. There is a great hope held out to us for the future because God promises to bring those we lost back to life by means of a resurrection to a paradise earth, where sickness and death will be no more. I hope this brief message will bring you a measure of comfort in this difficult time.
