Obituary

Rhonda Sue (Landerman) Dvorin, 50 years of age, of West Hartford, died on Friday, April 20, 2012, after a short but very courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Rhonda was the fourth and youngest child Irma (Lebowitz) Landerman of West Hartford and the late Robert Landerman. Rhonda was the cherished wife of Lawrence A. Dvorin; loving and devoted mother of, Rebecca Danielle Dvorin, and Maxwell Louis Dvorin. Rhonda is also survived by her mother, Irma Landerman; her sisters and brothers-in-law Deborah and Larry Levine, Pamela and Ricky Tinter; and her brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Laura Landerman; mother-in-law, Evelyn Dvorin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in- law, Michael and Penelope Dvorin, and Richard and Janice Dvorin. Rhonda is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Rhonda received her Bachelors of Music degree in 1984 from the University of Rhode Island and her Masters of Education degree in 1988 from Lesley College. She spent her life as both a general music teacher and classroom teacher in both the Stamford and Hartford Schools Systems. Her love for children and teaching came through every day that she entered the classroom. Rhonda was also a very talented vocalist, performing over the years with groups such as the Connecticut Opera Company, CONCORA and the Beth El Temple Chorus. She also taught music at Beth El Temple. Rhonda’s talents, love for life and devotion, to not only her family, but her friends and colleagues, made her very special to so many people. Many people considered Rhonda to be their best friend. Rhonda’s kindness and lack of selfishness came through every day of her life. Rhonda was also involved in helping to raise money for many worthwhile charities. Rhonda will be surely missed by all. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Siegel, Dr. Evan Fox, Dr. Steven Shichman and Laurie Veale (along with the other doctors and nurses at Oncology Associates, P.C.) for their tremendous care of Rhonda as well as the McLean Home Care & Hospice and the Hebrew Hospital. The family also wishes to thank all of Rhonda’s close friends who were at her side from the very beginning of her diagnosis providing love, care and assistance in any way that they could. Finally, the family wants to thank the Law Firm of Ford & Paulekas, LLP for allowing Larry to focus his time on providing care to Rhonda throughout the term of her illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Avenue, West Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen and Cantor Joseph Ness officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson Street Ext., Avon. A Memorial Period will be observed immediately following the interment, continuing Monday through Wednesday evening with services at 7:30 PM, at the home of Evelyn Dvorin, 6 Bridle Path, Avon 06001. My sincerest condolences to Larry and the entire Landerman and Dvorin families. Rhonda was an absolute lovely and talented woman. I will forever remember her saving the day at my daughter Robyn's 4th birthday party-my entertainment was a no show and sure enough, Rhonda had her guitar in the car and mesmerized the kids with fun and song. I can never remember a time I ever saw Rhonda without a smile on her face or a friendly hello. I wish her family peace and healing at this time, may her memory be a blessing.

I met Rhonda while working in the Hartford Public School System. We attended the Connecticut Music Educators' Conference together and had lunch a few times with some of our colleagues, Gail and Allison. Rhonda was always very friendly and willing to share ideas and resources to help me. You could tell she was a very devoted mother and teacher. I will always remember Rhonda as a very loving, kind person.

Dear Larry, Rebecca & Max,
It's hard to believe in miracles today. We're so sorry your family had to endure such great suffering & loss.
I'm glad you are a strong man & father, Larry. You needed that strength to be there for Rhonda & you'll need it now on your own helping to guide Rebecca & Max through their grief & in their budding lives.
Rebecca, I lost my mother during college midterms in my junior year. I found some deep well of strength to get through my responsibilities & I know you'll find yours. You & your Mom were very close. It's your memories of her love & wisdom that will be with you to guide you during all your life.
Max, I'm sorry you won't be able to share your accomplishments with your Mom in the audience. I know her love for you will be there at every milestone in your life. I know the three of you with your grandmothers, aunts, uncles & cousins will be there to support one another as you are together in your grief today.
