Wiener

Obituary

Robert D. Wiener, 92 years of age, of Newington, passed away on July 2, 2008 at Hartford Hospital. He was born in New Britain on October 23, 1915 to the late Hyman and Rachel (Holtzman) Wiener and grew up as the youngest of seven children. He lived in Newington since 1957. After high school, Bob attended Aircraft Mechanic School and served in the US Army during World War II from August 10, 1943 to December 29, 1945. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge as an aircraft mechanic and observer for the location of enemy troops and artillery batteries and movement. After the war, he began his career in sales which was a natural choice due to his outgoing personality and delight in meeting people. He spent 25 years with Samsonite Corporation as a Regional Sales Representative for the luggage division. Bob was an avid golfer and was a member of Indian Hills Country Club, Newington, for many years. He was also a member of the New Britain Elks; he was a devoted husband, father, and father-in-law. He is survived by his wife Mollye (Seltzer) Wiener to whom he had been married for 66 years since their wedding on April 7, 1942. He is also survived by his daughter Jill Bricknell and her husband Mark of Roswell, GA; his brother Abraham Wiener of Longmeadow, MA; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harvey and Arline Seltzer of Newington; his sister-in-law Bae Brown of Stratford; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Road, Newington with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Sinai Memorial Park, Newington. The family will receive relatives and friends at his home, 80 Knollwood Rd., Newington following the funeral on Sunday, then Monday and Tuesday, 2-4 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Ave., Hartford 06106.
