Saul Kutner, 84, passed away on Sunday, August 15 in Atlanta, Georgia. A longtime resident of West Hartford, CT, he recently moved to Atlanta with his wife, Selma, to live closer to family. They were residents at the William Breman Jewish Home. Born in Brooklyn, Saul was Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. Prior to earning his PhD from Temple University, he spent much of his earlier career as Assistant Director of the Wilmington, DE Jewish Community Center. He received his BA from Brooklyn College and a Masters of Social Work from Boston University. Survivors include Selma, Saul’s wife of 57 years, daughter Charna and son-in-law Gregory Hicks of Woodstock, GA, daughter Naomi Kutner of Atlanta, GA, grandchildren James Hicks of Decatur, GA and Elizabeth Hicks of Woodstock, GA, and brother Sy Kutner of Memphis, TN. Saul was pre-deceased by a daughter, Ellen Kutner, formerly of West Hartford, CT. Classical music was Saul’s true passion. He fulfilled a dream by learning to conduct and leading a small orchestra at the celebration of his 70th birthday.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in Beth El Temple Cemetery in Avon, CT.
