She leaves behind her husband, Murray A. Gerber; her son James S .Gerber and many friends.
She Graduated Boston University in 1957 with a BA in Education. She went on to get two Masters Degrees in Psychology. After College Shirley worked briefly as a teacher before developing a decade’s long career as a School Psychologist for the Windsor CT school system and later in life a shorter stint as a consultant via CREC as a School Psychologist for East Hampton.
Shirley was an active bridge player and golfer and was still enjoying both activities to just before her recent illness. She was a fierce competitor achieving lifetime master’s status in bridge and winning her flight in golf well into her seventies.
Shirley loved Boston Sports and was an avid Redsox and Patriots fan as well as going to University of New Haven football games in the fall and participating in online fantasy golf. She was actually leading a 32 person league at the time of her death.
Shirley had a huge zest for life. She loved eating out at her favorite restaurants and traveling worldwide and throughout the United States. Recent trips included a very moving trip to Eastern Europe, a fun trip to Las Vegas with her Son Jim celebrating his 50th birthday. Past trips included places like England, France, Italy, Portugal and many business trips with her husband Murray.
Shirley was a great resource to many friends and family always available and willing to share her time and life experiences with others.
She will be missed by a great number of friends and family.
Funeral Services will be at 9:00 AM on Friday August 15th at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT.
