Labinger

Obituary

Stanley H. Labinger, 77, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Andrea (Kaplan) Labinger for 51 years, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013 at home. Born in Hartford, the son of the late Morris and Florence Labinger, he grew up in Hartford, graduating from Weaver in 1953. He attended the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy graduating with honors in 1957. Stan owned Farmingdale Pharmacy in New Britain from December 1964 to January 1986. He was very active in pharmacy organizations among them the National Association of Retail Druggists, and the Alpha Zeta Omega Pharmaceutical Fraternity. Stan was active in the Connecticut Pharmacist Association and was installed as president in June 1975. After he sold his business, he became an investment broker and worked as an arbitrator for FINRA until his death. He enjoyed playing his trombone and was active in community bands and most recently playing Klezmer music. Beside his wife, he is survived by his children: Martin Labinger and his wife Lisa; daughter Amy Gothers and her husband Matthew; and his two beloved grandchildren: Jake and Ryan Gothers. He is also survived by his nephews Brett (Donna) Feinstein, Marc (Betsy) Kaplan and Steven Kaplan (and his fiancé Tracey Estes). He also leaves an uncle Alvin Rosenthal and three aunts: Sally Rosenthal, Marge Rosenthal, and Sara Rosenthal; several cousins and their families in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia and California. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Janet Feinstein. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed at the family home in West Hartford, following the interment, through Tuesday evening. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Schauer and Donna Rioux, his oncology nurse, as well as the other wonderful, supportive staff at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center. Special thanks as well to the VNA Hospice team. Both teams offered the care, support, compassion and comfort to Stan and the family, and we thank you. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Ave., Hartford 06106, or to VNA Hospice, 103 Woodland St., Hartford 06106, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Dear Mrs. Labinger, Amy, Ryan, and family,
My sincere condolences to all of you on the loss of your beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Having known Mr. Labinger since I was a little girl, and then as an adult as a member of the same synagogue family, I have always enjoyed seeing him and conversing. He was a great man! I will miss seeing him in shul and in the kleznmer band. May your happy memories of a special husband, dad, and grandfather get you through this really sad time.

I always considered Stanley my best friend no matter where I lived or how far away. We were in touch for over 40 years either by phone, e-mail or personally. Stan introduced Gail and I, and, reflective of his keen insight, we have been happily married for 35 years. We both love you and you will be sorely missed. God bless you and keep you eternally.

Dear Martin:
I want to express my deepest condolences to you and your wife, as well as to your family, at this difficult time of losing your father. I remember what a pleasure it was to be your teacher at Conard, especially since you had such a loving and supportive family. I am certain that your father was a role model for you throughout your life and I wish you comfort as you grieve losing him. Take care and God bless you.

We were so sorry to hear about Stanley. He was a terrific guy, and put up with quite a few shenanigans from his daughter, Amy, and her friends when they were teenagers (way too long ago). He was like a dad to all of us, and he will be sorely missed. Love, Gail, Jim and Elise
