Steven A. Rubin, 50 years of age, of Glastonbury, formerly of Hamden, died early Thursday (January 6, 2011) following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. With family at his side, he passed peacefully leaving behind his beloved wife April S. Reitman, formerly of West Hartford, – daughter of Shirley and Seymour Reitman and sister to Dr. William Reitman of East Granby and Larry Reitman and his wife Sandra of West Simsbury; and son Jacob “Jake” Scott Rubin, an 8th grader at Smith Middle School. Steve is also survived by three brothers: Arnie Kamrin of Los Altos, CA, Louis Rubin of Cross Hill, SC and his wife Robin, Larry Rubin of Southington; as well as his father Allan Rubin and his wife Carol of Hamden. Steve was predeceased by his mother Elaine Michaels of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.Steve, a natural teacher, took to the fields of Glastonbury to coach lacrosse and football and will be well-remembered by the youth and coaches who shared the love of the game and his kinship by the other parents who will continue to feel his presence each time Jake stands in front of the net defending the goal. Steven was a member of the Army National Guard. Earning a B.S. degree in Chemistry from SCSU, Steve went on to achieve a life-long dream of starting his own company, Complete Solutions Technology, and was able to enjoy spending his days with his wife April who has been his best friend for the past 20 years.
Funeral services will be held TODAY, Friday, January 7, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Congregation Kol Haverim, 1079 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury 06033, with Rabbi Craig Marantz officiating. A memorial period will be observed at his home, 269 Neipsic Rd., Glastonbury, Saturday, January 8, 2011 from 6:00-9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jake Rubin Education Fund, c/o People’s United Bank, 40 Welles St., Glastonbury 06033 or to Dequattro Community Cancer Center, 73A Haynes St., Manchester 06040.
