Stuart

Cohen

Obituary

Stuart L Cohen, 65 years of age, died Monday, March 1, 2021. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Samuel H a/k/a ‘Syd Conn’ and Pauline (Rudofsky) Cohen. Stu greatly cherished his family, and leaves his three children Pauline Weinstein (Alan), Jonathan Cohen (Jessica) and Jessica Cohen (Joseph), his former wife Gila Cohen, and grandchildren Lily Weinstein, Davis Weinstein and Theodore Cohen who knew him as “Grandpa Shimmy”. He leaves behind his sisters Sheila Levy, Hyla Sklar and the late Iris Rosenberg. It is impossible to put into words the amazing man he was from his warm demeanor, optimistic outlook and generous spirit. Stu had a great sense of humor, and always strived to lift those up around him. He was very spiritual and was a member of many Jewish congregations in the Greater Hartford Area over the years. He was never judgmental or lost sight of the big picture in life, always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He enjoyed supporting local youth sports teams with a goal of promoting sportsmanship, education and kindness among young athletes, including the annual Turkey Day football trophy that he and his son would give to the Hartford High-Weaver High game’s most valuable player, a family tradition that his father Syd started over 80 years prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish National Fund, or a scholarship fund that his children are setting up to sponsor young scholar athletes in Stu’s name. For more information on the charity and to share memories with the family who would love to hear them, email stuartcohenlegacy@gmail.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT. For further information or to sign the guest book for Stuart, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals. Shiva visitation will be on Sunday, March 7th at 5:30 PM EST: https://zoom.us/j/502382254. Additional information may be found on the Emanuel Synagogue website: www.emanuelsynagogue.org.

Dear Cohen Family, julie and i were shocked to hear this news. i have known stewart since he was the batboy for conns kings,a long time ago. he was a very caring young man who his dad and mom adored. sid would always tell me how he was doing growing up. once in a while when i was coaching at Hall football ,he would come over and watch practice. He became in his latest years of his life a religious
young man.with Torah and it's teachings. may he rest in peace.
