Sylvia "Dubby"

(Maron)

Levy

Obituary

Sylvia “Dubby” Maron Levy, of West Hartford, passed peacefully on Tuesday morning, (July 23, 2013) with her loving family by her side. Born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Hyman and Rebecca (Munitz) Maron, Sylvia graduated from Weaver High School, and on Valentine’s Day 1942, married her high school sweetheart, best friend and the love of her life, Max “Marco” Levy. After spending their first years together in Hartford, they later made their home in West Hartford; a home built with the skills and love of both their families. Sylvia was the respected, beloved and cherished matriarch of the Levy/Maron families and truly adored by all who knew her. She leaves her loving, devoted and cherished children; daughter Shelly Levy of Bloomfield; son Michael Levy and his wife Shelley; and granddaughters, Alison Levy and Alexis Levy, all of West Hartford; and her daughter Madalyn Levy of Bloomfield. She also leaves her sweetie, dear friend and sister-in-law Sophie Levy; sister-in-law Judy Levy, both of West Hartford, and many loving, adoring and cherished nieces and nephews. Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved husband Max; sisters, Ida Horenbein, Ann Shore, Yetta Glider and Ruth Levy. Employed by John Hancock Life Insurance as office manager for over 26 years, Sylvia was also a lifetime member of Hadassah and longtime member of the Sephardic Congregation of Greater Hartford. She enjoyed many years of mah jongg with the ladies, was a fantastic cook (her brownies were the best), an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, but most of all, Sylvia’s greatest joy was her family. She would warm the hearts of all who entered the house she made her home for the past 58 years. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by those of us who loved her. Her family is very grateful for the loving care for the past three years at DaVita Hartford North, especially our angel, Kim. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, July 25, 2013, in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Gary Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Wolcott Rd., East Granby. Shiva will be observed at Sylvia’s home in West Hartford after the funeral, with evening Minyan at 7:30 Thursday, and will continue until 3 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation , 1463 Highland Avenue, Cheshire, CT 06410. I worked with Sylvia for many years at John Hancock. She was a wonderful helpful person that you liked to visit with as well as work with. We went to many company functions and partys with her and Max including Eastover. They were both the nicest people you could be with. The memories were great but I feel very sad that they are over. God Bless.

Condolences to the Levy family from the Hermans. I was just in CT last weekend visitng my mother Mae and brother Rick (from the Boston area. We had learned that Sylvia died earlier that week. We talked about old times on Tumblebrook Lane and memories of those years. We drove down Tumblebrook Lane to see our old house and rode right by yours, and drove through all the old neighborhood. Our best thoughts go out to you and yours.

I have many fond memories of good times with both Sylvia and Max.
Sylvia was a gracious, kind and caring woman. She and Max brought smiles and humor wherever they went. On my mantel, I still have their wedding gift of a beautiful decanter and glasses. My condolences to all of you.

Our deepest and sincere sympathy to all of Sylvia's children and grandchildren. She was a special lady who never said a bad word about anybody. She never complained and was always cheerful. She was an outstanding mother and grandmother who was always there to help her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by so many people. She was a legend in her time! We can all take lessons from Sylvia.
