Sylvia Korduner, 88, wife of the late Peter Korduner, died peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2014. She was born in Volodymyr-Volynsky, Poland, on November 13, 1925, to Avrum Leib and Etta.
A survivor of the Holocaust, Sylvia married her husband in 1944; they were married for 69 years. She immigrated with her husband and oldest daughter to the United States in 1949. She worked in food services for West Hartford Public Schools for almost 30 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Munish, Srulek, and Yankel, her sisters Betty Shuch and Stella Klein, and her son-in-law Jim Murray.
She is survived by her three children, Anita Fischer of West Hartford, Jack and Sherri Korduner of Norwich, and Lori Murray of West Hartford; her nine grandchildren, Jonathan and Rifka Sack of California, Marc Sack of West Hartford, Elizabeth Steinman of Florida, John Michael and Missy Korduner of Louisiana, Sarah Fischer of Bloomfield, Daniel and Elizabeth Murray of West Hartford, Rebecca Korduner of Massachusetts, Brandon Murray of Storrs, and Matthew Korduner of Florida; and her four great-grandchildren, Noah and Logan Steinman of Florida, and Dovid and Doniel Sack of California. Her stepsister Raye Kramer also survives her.
Her family wishes to thank Hana and Farida for their steadfast care.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford; burial will be at the United Synagogues of Greater Hartford Cemetery in Wethersfield. Mourners will be received following the funeral and on Monday from 6 – 8 p.m. at 7 Sequin Road, West Hartford.
