Our Mom, Sylvia Rosenfeld, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at her home at Brookdale Chatfield in West Hartford. She was born in Hartford on July 6, 1929 to Lillian and Phineas Spelane. Sylvia attended Hartford schools and was a proud graduate of Weaver High School, Class of 1947. She worked at the Travelers after graduation. She loved making family and holiday dinners and would often empty the living room out of furniture and set up ping pong tables to have huge Passover Seders. She was proud most of her role as Wife, Mother, Grandmother and especially Great-Grandmother. Sylvia met our Dad, Harry Rosenfeld, in the Catskills and brought him home to Hartford where they married and raised a family. Harry passed away in January 2022. Sylvia was also predeceased by her brother, Albert Spelane. Sylvia is survived by her three children, Linda (Martin) Stein, Jed (Sharon) Rosenfeld and Daniel (Lauren) Rosenfeld, her grandchildren Julie (Evan) Schiff, Jon (Angela) Stein, Adam (Michelle) Rosenfeld, Hanna Rosenfeld, Jack Rosenfeld and Samantha Rosenfeld, and her great-grandchildren Avery and Abigail Schiff and Madelyn and Freddy Stein. Sylvia was known affectionately by everyone as Bubbie or Gigi. Sylvia was a long-time member of the Emanuel Synagogue and its Sisterhood. She also was a member of Jewish Children’s Service Organization and Hadassah (because she loved their magazines). We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Brookdale Chatfield for taking such good care of Mom and Dad since 2017. The nursing staff of Beata, Medista, Melissa, Brenda, Tracy and Jill kept Mom safe and so well cared for. Mom was kept busy and loved by Maria and Karen who worked their best at keeping her happy. And our family is truly thankful for all the attention that so many aides gave her for so many years. Mom’s APRN, Janine Wilcox, was always there to help her feel better and answer all of Linda’s questions. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 1:30pm at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT. Burial will follow at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery in Wethersfield, CT. Memorial donations may be made to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center, Ashford, CT 06278 or to the Emanuel Synagogue Youth Activities Fund, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT 06117.
May Sylvia’s memory be for a blessing. Arrangements are being handled by Weinstein Mortuary.
