‘Grandma Joanie’, Joan Jackson, a long time resident of Simsbury, CT died peacefully Sunday, March 6, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford surrounded by her family. Joan was born in March of 1936 to Louis and Edith (Dunlap) Ginsberg of Hartford. In 1959, she married Raphael (Ralph) Jackson (died 1988), and shared 29 wonderful years together. Joanie worked at Step to Beauty in West Hartford for over 25 years. Whether she was preparing a sandwich, managing appointments or making deposits, Joanie was often the first smiling face seen when entering ‘the shop’. A true animal lover, Joanie always had a spare biscuit for any dog lucky enough to cross her path. She enjoyed knitting, baking, playing cards and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. Her warmth and comfort embraced those around her in a blanket of love and sense of home. Joanie is survived by her daughter, Edith (Jackson) Salmonsen, her son, Martin Jackson and his wife Debbie, ‘her other daughter’, and her five beautiful grandchildren, Ryan, Zack, Abby, Talia, and Lexi.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 10, 2016 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Donations in Joanie’s memory can be made directly to The Connecticut Humane Society.
